FAQ

What makes your shawls different from others on the market?

Every shawl at The Loom Works is handcrafted in Kashmir, using traditional Kani weaving — a centuries-old technique where the pattern is woven directly into the fabric, thread by thread, using small wooden bobbins. This is not printed fabric, and it is not machine-made. Each piece is the result of weeks or months of skilled handwork by artisans who have spent years mastering this craft. You won't find this level of detail in mass-produced shawls.

What materials are your shawls made from?

Our shawls are made from premium natural materials including silk, wool, and pashmina — all sourced in the Kashmir Valley. The specific composition of each shawl is listed on its product page. If you have any questions about a specific piece, feel free to reach out to us directly.

What sizes do your shawls come in?

Each product page lists the exact measurements of that shawl in inches. Our shawls typically range from 28x80 inches for stole-style pieces to 45x90 inches for larger wrap-style shawls. These dimensions are listed under the product description on every item so you know exactly what to expect before purchasing.

Are the colors exactly as shown in the photos?

We photograph our shawls carefully to represent colors as accurately as possible. However, screen settings vary from device to device, so there may be a slight difference between what you see on screen and the actual product. Because our shawls are handwoven, there may also be very minor natural variations in pattern or texture — this is a characteristic of authentic handmade work, not a defect. If a shawl arrives and the color is significantly different from what was shown, please contact us and we will make it right.

Are your shawls reversible?

Some of our shawls, such as the Berry Royale, are specifically designed to be reversible — this is noted in the product name and description. Our Kani-woven pieces also have a beautiful reverse side as a natural result of the weaving process, though they are not all marketed as reversible styles. Check the individual product description for details.

How do I care for my shawl?

Most of our shawls are dry clean only, particularly the Kani silk and pashmina pieces. Some lighter pieces can be carefully hand-washed in cold water — this is specified on each product page. To remove light creases, iron on a low temperature setting with a cloth between the iron and the shawl. Never tumble dry. Store your shawl folded in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve its colors and texture.

Can I wear these shawls year-round?

Yes — this is one of the things we love most about our collection. Our silk shawls are light and breathable enough for spring and summer, while our pashmina and wool pieces provide warmth in fall and winter. Many of our customers wear their Loom Works shawls all four seasons, simply styling them differently depending on the weather.
